Three Summer Trends Worth Following

Thursday, June 02, 2011Aaron Reese

I've never been one for adapting to trends easily. If you remember in my introductory blog post, I explain that the Ralphnerd aesthetic is all about the classics executed in a modern and innovative way. Here are three summer trends that should kick your closet up a notch.

1.Color Blocking- Definitely my fav out of the top three, color blocking seems to be the highlight of my summer. With designers such as Jil Sander, Prada and Tom Ford painting the runways a  technicolor-ed dream, it's hard not to dive into this trend. Mega-stores such as Zara, H&M and Top Shop are already selling out of this rapidly growing trend. Try something daring like Zara's electric blue blazer with a bold pink short and a yellow crew neck. Color blocking is a fun and simple way to jolt that docile wardrobe.

 2. White- This trend definitely comes with it's list of taboos. But I think we've all forgotten how elegant and beautiful white can be on a dazzling summer evening. Chic, clean and defined, white can elevate a "blah" outfit to something more "Hamptons" chic. It's also the perfect trend that intertwines with others, such as the boho trend. It's actually a great color to color block with, also. Bring white to life with wooden jewelry and earth tone accessories. The look is serene and classic, but still speaks volumes. Check out some of the looks from Dolce & Calvin below. The two designers pull of white effortlessly.

3. Pattern mix up- Plaid, checkers, stripes, and more plaid. I can't say that I've always been fond of this trend but the end result after meshing variable prints together give you a pretty awesome eclectic all American feel. A patterned tie with a checkered button down makes for the perfect summer suit. Light, festive, and eye catching! Michael Bastion, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ralph Lauren are all go to designer's for this classic Americana look.
