Ralphnerd Recommends : Embracing a new trend

Trends are a tricky thing to pull off, especially when you're a stickler for the classics. I actually applaud a caution when it comes to trends. They're fleeting, intimidating and at times just plain awful. (Think Von Dutch trucker hats.)

However, they can be the best thing for a stale wardrobe. A simple way to incorporate a trend is to take a piece that you're familiar and fuse it with a trending color or pattern. Take myself for example. I love a good staple shoe or a button up.  These are two essentials that can handle a fun upgrade.

Check out my Sperry's below.

Here's a fun twist on an American classic. Black leather Sperry's with neon green soles. Neon has been quite the trend this season. Why not show your confidence with a splash of neon in your closet? It makes the perfect statement piece for the upcoming summer months. These guys retailed for $90.00 on zappos.com

Flower Power! This Ted Baker button up happens to be one of my favorite newly acquired pieces. I've never been a fan of florals, but this is a fun way to embrace the spring fever! Florals and prints have been heavy focuses in menswear S/S 2012 collections. Upon first sight the floral trend was not one I was ready to invest in but, when I saw this semi water color button up I fell in love. This Ted Baker is actually a limited edition piece that I snagged from Nordstrom.com for $295.00

I admit I possess a fashion bravado that most don't but, don't let that stop you from taking a trend and making it your own. Even if you start of with small accessories such as ties, scarves and cufflinks it's a progression towards something fun and different.
