Good Tunes: The xx marks the spot

New music. I love it, crave it and absolutely can not function with out it. So if you're a music junkie like me, you know that Tuesdays are the designated album release days. This Tuesday The xx debuted their sophomore album Coexist. It's hard for me to describe the British indie/pop band's sound, but the most precedent adjective to me is mellow. It's a sexy, smoothing album. I'm no music blogger, but I love good vibing music. Music that allows me to focus, relax and shift my energies while I'm blogging. This album has seriously been on repeat all this week, so I thought I'd share.

The Band's lead-man, producer and DJ, Jamie Smith was interviewed by V-Man magazine. One of his stand out quotes, "We only put what we can play live on a record. That's always been our mentality. There's only three of us. We're quite simple, so we like our music simple." And while I love simplicity as well, it's certainly not what I would call The xx's new album. There's a casual subtlety with every note, and chord progression. V-Man refers to this as "bedroom pop", and I couldn't agree more. There is something uniquely attractive about the laid back production this album has.
